11/20/2022 Pastor Wally Steele presents Acts 18, the Apostle Paul's second missionary journey.
What to think about this week: 1. The team 2. The miracle 3. The vision and the vow |
- The team - Priscilla and Aquila are "fellow workers in Christ Jesus" (Romans 16:3). They had a powerful impact in the foundation of the first century church. It was not only men who helped found the first century church and ensure accurate teaching. Women also helped and are recognized as "fellow workers".
- The miracle - Sosthenes, the Synagogue ruler (Acts 18:17) persecuted Paul but later becomes a Christian (1 Corinthians 1:1-2).
- The vision and the vow - One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision: "Do not be afraid; keep on speaking, do not be silent for I am with you and no one is going to attack and harm you. (Acts 18:9-10) (The vow kept) Just as Paul was about to speak, Gallio said to them, “If you Jews were making a complaint about some misdemeanor or serious crime, it would be reasonable for me to listen to you. But since it involves questions about words and names and your own law—settle the matter yourselves. I will not be a judge of such things.” So he drove them off. Then the crowd there turned on Sosthenes the synagogue leader and beat him in front of the proconsul; and Gallio showed no concern whatever. (Acts 18:14-17)
Our vow today: Romans 12:1-2 (NIV) Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
